I read this book because it is considered a classic. That was the only reason I finished it. I absolutely hated this book. To me it was the whining of an adolescent crybaby, nothing more. I really can’t understand how this came to be a “classic.”

As much as I like Robert Duvall, his version of Ike was scripted to focus on his relationship with Kate Summersby, not on the substance of leadership. This movie is absolutely superb.
Tom Selleck gives what may be one of the most mature and serious performances of his career, and from my vantage point–not having been a general officer but knowing about fifty of them)–I believe he captures with enormous nuance and feeling the stress not only of leadership, but of leadership in a coalition environment where egos and posturing by lesser generals can run amok.
The very best part of this movie is in its portrayal of the dynamics between Churchill and Ike, and the historic shift away from separate field commanders for air, land, and sea, and one Supreme Commander. The USA could use a Supreme Commander today. In my view, the services continue to posture and lie to inflate their budgets, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff should be a five-star general and chosen to be the Supreme Commander, with the Secretary of Defense in command of policy and acquisition and inter-agency support, but NOT micro-managing either the strategy or the global force projection.
When in London I always try to visit the war bunker from which Churchill managed World War II. I always look for the 2-3 telephones that were used and remind myself that command is about more than having a ton of command and control, communications, computing, and a heavy metal military. This movie is a primer on sensible leadership under stress.

I’m just curious why there are many of you who believe God wrote the Holy Bible when it was clearly written by men such as Neale as well.
I believed the book to be extremely loving and has given a sense of peace within my life. God is loving and if he is loving I don’t believe he can be vengeful and wrathful as well. He or we created ourselves to experience life in all spectrum’s of life and although I also do not agree with some of the ideas, the premise makes logical and spiritual sense with me.

Its great for one thing, reading books. If you’re looking for anything else, its not your product. I had Sony Touch reader first, that was horrible compared to Kindle2. I’d say this, if wasn’t for iPad and the potentials of having color, I would have kept it. It’s still the best e-reader out there far none, until… iPad? or something else… The lack of Pdf zooming support was a big drawback. I have over 100 books (legal) on PDF, most tech books, but I cant get a good conversion from amazon or other tools because of the images and texts contained on my pdfs. That was my primary reason for returning Kindle2. I bought a few books through amazon, they were great. I bought the kindle edition of Post american world by Fareed Zakaria. It was good read on Kindle, very impressed on the txt to speech and also the zooming capability. Overall a very good product with a few annoying quirks. I probably would wait for the next Kindle to see if they will provide a color screen to read magazines and newspapers.. and iPad if they drop the price for next release..

What an over hyped piece of crap. I was supposed to have read this in high school but faked my way through it. Now I feel duped for wasting my time on it. The emperor has no clothes and this book sucks.
