I got this mouse to use with an Asus 1005PE Netbook and it exceeds expectations. I had it up and running in both Windows 7 and Ubuntu/Linux within minutes. The included directions are predictably bad so I threw them away, inserted batteries and was off and running using the Netbook’s built in Bluetooth. It shows up as a standard HID mouse so it uses standard drivers in both Windows and Ubuntu and no software install needed. The mouse itself is light and feels a bit fragile but build quality is decent. I find that it tracks well on a variety of both glossy and textured surfaces and have used it on my work desk, granite kitchen counters and as well as some atypical surfaces like an ultra-suede couch cushion (next to me while I am in front of the TV) and even my jeans pant leg and it works suprisingly well. I keep my Netbook in sleep mode when I am not using it so the mouse powers off automatically after 5 mins and my battery life has been fine so far. It seems to pair back up very quickly when I start back up. Overall, you can’t beat it for the price. I am going to buy another one to use on my work laptop.

Update: the price of this item seems to have more that doubled since I bought one a short time ago. Mine was sold by “gigacity” and fulfilled by Amazon but they seem to be replaced by a new vendor. Search around Amazon and you should be able to find this item for a price in the low teens.

I am pissed that this card did not come with a case. Come on, SD cases sell for a penny on Ebay, how much money did the manufacturer save by not including a case, less than a penny. But it’s a major inconvenience for me, now I have to buy a case for this card which is a spare and won’t be in the camera. Transcend just lost a customer, I hope it was worth the penny.

Works great. Much better that the window suction cup device that came with my first Garmin. This was purchased for use with a new Garmin that I bought at the same time. My only complaint is the cost. The Garmin was $119 and this device was 18% of the cost of the unit. They should just add $10 to each Garmin and include this in the box instead of the window suction cup.

I bought this for my wife to use on her bike that she uses inside (on a bike mount)and outside. Therefore, I was hoping to be able to install the sensor on the back tire since the front tire is stationary when she is inside. However, the wireless range is not far enough to reach if the sensor is on the back tire.

The item seems to be a good item, and a good price if you don’t need to install it on the back tire. It was very easy to install and set up.

My wife is the primary user of our Gen 2 IPOD TOUCH (16 GB) which we’ve owned for 13 months. She has loved the product, used it a lot, and been careful in its treatment. Unfortunately, about two days ago our unit started exhibiting the “white screen of death”; the unit seems to still function but the screen is largely white and images are barely discernable. At first, steps to reset the unit temporarily resolved the problem (i.e., simultaneously hold down the power-on button and the home button for 10 seconds), but that stopped working. Using Apple’s support site’s recommendations, we updated the unit’s software and returned it to original settings. These did not help. Now it looks like the charge for a repair through Apply will be at least $149. We had the base warranty which was 1 year in duration. We’d paid about $280 for the unit when new. I’m very disappointed to get only 13 months usage before being faced with an additional $149 to keep it working.

I’m 60 years old and I couldn’t put this book down. I like Harry Potter, Stephen King, science fiction, thrillers and spy novels. If you like at least four of the preceeding five I promise you that you will enjoy this book.

Colfer has captured a unique confluence of these genres in a short but very readable book.

I can’t wait to read the next four!!!

Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse

While it seemed to work well at first, the router persistently gets into a state where it won’t give out DHCP addresses. Any devices I have that use static addresses seem to work fine and it maintains its wireless network and WAN connection, but anything that gets its address via DHCP is off the network.

This can happen any time from a few hours to a few days after it’s been powered up. Every time this happens I have to reset the router to get it to work again for my DHCP devices. And yes, I have the latest firmware for this router (as of January 23, 2010).

I’d return the router whence it came, but I ignored my own good habits and threw the box away right after I bought it. It’s now sitting on my basement shelf waiting for salvation, but at this point I’m not too confident about it. A little Google work will find similar complaints by other users, and this has been going on for a while.
